These easy beef and veg pasties are proper comfort food. Golden pastry, seasoned beef mince, potato, carrot and onion, all wrapped up into a simple homemade pasty that works for dinner, lunchboxes or a freezer-friendly backup.
Â
We’ve used our premium beef mince here, but you can also swap in lamb mince if you want a slightly richer version.
Ingredients
- 500g premium beef mince
- 1 carrot, grated
- 1 potato, diced small
- ½ onion, finely diced
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 sheets shortcrust pastry
- 1 egg, beaten
- Sesame seeds, to top
Method
- Preheat your oven to 190°C and line a baking tray with baking paper.
- In a large bowl, combine the beef mince, carrot, potato, onion and Worcestershire sauce. Mix thoroughly so the vegetables and seasoning are evenly distributed through the mince.
- Roll out your pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut into even-sized circles, depending on how large you want your pasties.
- Spoon a generous amount of filling into the centre of each pastry circle, being careful not to overfill.
- Fold the pastry over to create a half-moon shape. Press the edges together firmly, then crimp to seal well so the filling doesn’t leak during baking.
- Place the pasties onto the prepared tray. Brush each one with beaten egg wash to help them turn golden and crisp in the oven.
- Sprinkle sesame seeds over the top for extra texture and flavour.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the pastry is deeply golden and crisp and the filling is cooked through.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving, as the filling will be very hot.
